The sources claim that PML-N leader and former PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and ex-secretary Finance Arif Khan played an important role for the job of Shauzab Ali—the husband of MNA Kanwal Shauzab of Khaqan’s rival political party
ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-March 23th, 2021) In what can be said sheer violation of merit, Shauzab Ali, the husband of PTI MNA Kanwal Shauzab, managed to get job of a commissioner with Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), the sources said on Tuesday.
The Sources said that Shauzab Ali who has been enjoying the status of commissioner with SECP along with all perks and privileges has also been Unit Head Finance of Asian Development Bank (ADB) simultaneously for last three years.
An astonishing fact is that PML-N leader Shahid Khan Abbasi and former Finance Secretary Arif Khan played an important role in selection of Shauzab Ali as a commissioner with SECP despite that he lacked the required experience for the said post.
According to the documents available with UrduPoint, Shauzab Ali made false statement about his experience. He said that he had 25 years experience against 20-year experience of advertised job of commissioner with SECP as he did his CA in 2000. The documents showed that he had only 17 years of experience instead of 20 years as advertised in 2017.
The Sources revealed that he also held the job of Head of Finance Unit of Asian Development since the first day of his appointment as Commissioner with the SECP in violation of relevant rules and regulations of SECP. The Rules clearly say that a person who is joining as SECP Commissioner would have resigned or retired from his previous job and position.
They said that he used political influence of his wife Kanwal Shauzab, the MNA of ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) for his personal gains. However, this is very strange that how he used PML-N leader despite that his wife belongs to PTI—the rival parties of each other.
Surprisingly, the Ministry of Finance did not counter check or verify the details provided by Shauzab Ali against his appointment on the said post. He was appointed as SECP Commissioner in March 2018 and now his three-year tenure is about to end at the end of this ongoing month. During this long period of three years, he used his position and power as a commissioner and helped “all those” including former PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
A plea has also been moved to NAB Chairman to take action against Shauzab Ali, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Arif Khan by a citizen for their connivance. He has been asked to take action against Shauzab and others, and perks and privileges should be taken back from him. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is the one of the main beneficiary as investigation against Air blue is still pending. Therefore, the citizen asked the anti-graft body chairman to take action against him too.
