Sabika’s funeral prayers held in Houston, dead body to reach Karachi tomorrow

The flight bringing the dead body was delayed due to poor weather conditions.

Houston (Pakistan Point News – 21st May, 2018) The dead body of Sabika Sheikh, a Pakistani student who was killed in Texas shooting incident, will be brought to the country through a private airline, tomorrow Tuesday.

The flight was delayed due to poor weather conditions. The flight bringing Sabika’s dead body will reach Karachi via Istanbul. The Pakistani Consulate is bearing all expenses in bringing the dead body back home. Sabik’s cousin Shaheera will also come along.

Earlier, Sabika’s funeral prayers were offered in Sabireen Mosque of Sugar Land area of Houston after Zohar prayers. A large number of people from Pakistani community and local authorities attended the funeral, including Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, officials of the Pakistani Consulate in Houston, local members of the United States Congress, members of the Pakistani Diaspora and students of Santa Fe High School.A protest over gun control was also held outside Hamza Mosque after the funeral prayers.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Turner said, "Even through her death, she will be a diplomat bringing together people. She was one of our children as well as all the other children who lost their lives in the Santa Fe High school shooting.

The Houston mayor later said in his tweet, “She’s a child of the Sheikh family but she is also one of our children, including all who lost their lives.”

In another tweet, Mayor Turner said, “I am grateful to Pakistan consul general Aisha Farooqui for inviting me to the solemn observance of the death of Sabika Sheikh.”

Pakistani Consul General in Houston Aisha Farooqui said that Sabika’s dead body will reach Karachi by Tuesday morning.

Sabika’s cousin said that her mother is still in a shock and they can probably never cope up with it.
