It operates a specialized system for collecting, storing, and managing biospecimens in accordance with the highest international standards.
The biobank focuses on several priority research areas, including oncology and cancer research, chronic and noncommunicable diseases, personalized and genomic medicine, rare diseases, neurological and behavioral disorders, and precision medicine based on linking biospecimens with clinical data.
It also supports specialized research into metabolic diseases, obesity, insulin resistance, and women's health, contributing to research innovation and supporting future healthcare priorities.
As part of its commitment to the highest quality and institutional accreditation standards, the biobank obtained accreditation for the international biobanking standard from the Saudi Accreditation Center.
It also received accreditation for its biobank program from the Office of Biobank education and Research at the University of British Columbia's Centre for Blood Research, accredited by the Canadian Tissue Repository Network, in accordance with internationally recognized specifications and standards in biobanking.
