Riyadh, July (پاکستان پوائنٹ نیوز 26 يوليو 2026ء) This achievement is the result of cooperation and integration between the Saudi food and Drug Authority (SFDA) and the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO). The SFDA submitted the technical proposal and project portfolio for establishing the committee, citing the international need for standards to further regulate this important field. SASO, meanwhile, handled technical and procedural coordination with ISO and national standards bodies in ISO member states.
The Saudi proposal received broad support from ISO member states, with 27 countries voting in favor of establishing the international technical committee. In addition, 13 countries expressed interest in joining the committee as participating members, while 21 countries sought observer membership, including several globally leading countries in standards and metrology.
Saudi Arabia, represented by the SFDA, will assume responsibility for the technical management of the international committee, which is tasked with developing international standards related to terminology and definitions, safety and performance requirements, testing methods, and safety controls for wound dressings and compresses. This will contribute to enhancing the quality and safety of these products worldwide.
