Jeddah, July (پاکستان پوائنٹ نیوز 26 يوليو 2026ء) Known locally as shura trees, mangroves are coastal plants capable of thriving in highly saline environments and waterlogged muddy soils. Their unique biological structure enables their aerial roots to breathe and adapt to tidal fluctuations, exemplifying nature's remarkable ability to sustain life in some of the most challenging environments.
Rabigh's coastline is home to clusters of these evergreen trees, whose intertwined root systems have become natural nurseries for juvenile fish, crustaceans, and other marine organisms, while also providing safe habitats for a variety of resident and migratory coastal birds. This enhances the ecological value of the area and supports the sustainability of fish stocks and marine food chains.
Rabigh's mangrove forests represent a living example of nature-based solutions. They serve as a green shield for the coastline, a haven for marine life, a carbon reservoir, and a driver of ecotourism and the blue economy, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 to protect natural resources, expand vegetation cover, and build a more sustainable future for generations to come.
