This allows for early therapeutic intervention and proactive adjustments to treatment plans, reducing the need for hospitalization and improving clinical outcomes.
The medical team indicated that the technology is intended for patients with Class II and Class III heart failure, according to the American Heart Association (AHA) classification, as these patients are considered the most likely to benefit from continuous monitoring to help prevent deterioration in their condition.
The system consists of an ultra-small wireless sensor that is permanently implanted in the pulmonary artery through a simple right heart catheterization procedure, without the need for batteries or wires. It also includes a next-generation smart home monitoring device that enables patients to take daily measurements easily from home by lying on a dedicated pillow for a few minutes, which records the readings and transmits the data wirelessly.
