SAR has implemented a range of initiatives and programs to strengthen its safety culture both internally and externally. These include awareness campaigns to reduce violations and unsafe behaviors across the railway network, the adoption of internationally recognized models to measure safety culture and analyze operational behaviors, specialized training and awareness programs for leaders and employees, and the use of advanced technologies, data, and operational intelligence to support decision-making and enhance risk management.
The company said these initiatives have played a significant role in promoting a culture of safety throughout the organization and the wider community. The institutional transformation has produced measurable operational improvements, including a 75% reduction in level-crossing accidents, a 62.5% decrease in injuries, a 63% reduction in near-miss incidents, and a 68% decline in collisions within rail yards and workshops.
In addition, SAR's safety culture index increased to 57%, exceeding the global average. The company said the achievement reflects the positive impact of its safety initiatives and programs implemented in recent years.
