Camels Stand as Key Heritage Symbol in Northern Borders Region

Rafha, June (پاکستان پوائنٹ نیوز ‎‎‎ 23 يونيو 2026ء) According to the Northern Borders branch of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, the region is home to around 70,000 camels, underscoring their economic and social significance and their continued presence in daily life.

Historically, camels have been central to Bedouin life, supporting trade, migration, and communication, while remaining closely tied to traditional herding practices that are still part of the region’s cultural heritage.

Today, camels continue to receive care and support from owners and authorities through initiatives that preserve their breeds and promote their heritage, in line with national efforts to safeguard intangible cultural identity and strengthen authentic Saudi traditions.
