Riyadh, June (پاکستان پوائنٹ نیوز 11 يونيو 2026ء) International Archives Day, observed annually on June 9, provides an opportunity to highlight efforts to preserve documentary heritage and historical records and to raise awareness of the vital role archives play in safeguarding national and human memory.
The King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives (Darah) continues to collect, preserve, restore, digitize, and provide access to sources of Saudi history through a range of specialized programs and centers. These efforts help safeguard the Kingdom’s documentary heritage and enrich its historical and intellectual content.
Darah’s collections now exceed 3.9 million historical and documentary items. In 2025, it expanded its holdings by acquiring more than 213,000 additional materials, reflecting its commitment to preserving national historical resources for future generations.
Internationally, Darah has strengthened its presence through partnerships and cooperation agreements with 23 archival institutions and specialized organizations worldwide, fostering the exchange of expertise, advancing preservation and digitization practices, and enhancing access to historical sources related to the Kingdom’s history.
The foundation also urged the public to preserve, digitize, and back up historical documents, photographs, memoirs, and records, and encouraged owners of historically valuable materials to cooperate with relevant authorities to help preserve and enrich the Kingdom’s national heritage.
