RCU Showcases Sustainable Mobility Solutions and Human Capability Development at the Saudi International Rail Exhibition and Conference 2025

Riyadh, October (پاکستان پوائنٹ نیوز ‎‎‎ 20 اكتوبر 2025ء) During its participation in the exhibition, RCU will present a mock-up of the future AlUla Tram project, which reflects the RCU's leadership in integrating innovation and sustainability with heritage preservation efforts. This prominent sustainable mobility project extends over 22.4 kilometres across the Governorate, connecting AlUla's UNESCO World Heritage sites, historic towns, and urban centres. It will be the world's longest battery-operated, catenary-free tram system. RCU’s objective for the future Tram project is to offer a unique mobility experience through a "Journey Through Time" that links five heritage and cultural landscapes in one route: AlUla Old Town, Dadan, Jabal Ikmah, the Nabataean Oasis, and the city of Hegra. Through this project, the commission aims to provide authentic and sustainable tourism experiences while preserving AlUla's cultural identity and natural environment.

The AlUla Tram project stands out with its innovative and climate-adaptive design, which was developed in collaboration with the French company Alstom. The AlUla Tram aims to provide unique commute options for the future residents of AlUla, in addition to enhancing the visitor experience and preserving the environment through clean transport technologies that align with the Kingdom's goals for reducing carbon emissions. This positions AlUla as a model for global sustainable tourism destinations.

Through its participation in the exhibition, RCU is highlighting its strategic partnership with the Saudi Railway Polytechnic (SRP) in the field of human capability development. This involves equipping young Saudi men and women from AlUla with world-class specialist skills in the operation and maintenance of modern transport systems. This initiative ensures that the future of AlUla's transport systems, including the experiential tram, will be built and managed by localised, domestic expertise.

This supports the future of the Kingdom's sustainable transport sector and embodies the ambitions of Saudi Vision 2030 for human capital development. Through these initiatives, RCU affirms its leadership in connecting innovation, heritage, and human development, solidifying AlUla's position as a global destination for sustainable transport and unique tourism experiences.
