Jazan Culture House Holds ‘Clay from Our Soil’ Workshop to Revive Traditional Pottery Making

Jizan, October (پاکستان پوائنٹ نیوز ‎‎‎ 19 اكتوبر 2025ء) Spanning six consecutive training stages, the workshop introduced participants to the art of traditional pottery using environmentally friendly materials. It covered the full production cycle—from clay extraction and processing to shaping, firing, and glazing—to create pottery pieces that combine authenticity with artistic beauty.

Throughout the hands-on sessions, participants learned to identify different types of clay and their properties, prepare raw materials for shaping, implement creative designs, and apply artistic details. The training also included guidance on building a traditional local kiln and conducting the initial firing process, followed by lining, glazing, and final evaluation of the completed works.

Instructor Yahya Hakami explained that Jazan’s clay is distinguished by its high flexibility and unique composition, making it ideal for free-form shaping and the production of traditional pottery and household items for which the region’s villages are well known.

The “Clay from Our Soil” program is one of several initiatives launched by the Jazan Culture House in conjunction with the Year of Handicrafts events organized by the Ministry of Culture. The program aims to preserve and promote traditional crafts while enhancing their presence within the region’s cultural and artistic scene.
