In the water sector, the SFD has significantly financed rural development, infrastructure, and well projects to achieve water and food security while providing social and economic support to developing countries. Additionally, it has supported transportation and communication projects to facilitate trade, improve road networks, and reduce transportation costs, thereby enhancing safety and efficiency within these countries.

Additionally, the SFD supports energy, agriculture, industry, and mining sectors, recognizing their importance for economic growth and enhanced living standards in developing communities.

Over five decades, the SFD has been instrumental in fostering economic and social stability in developing nations across Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean. It supports critical sectors—education, healthcare, water, urban development, energy, agriculture, transport, industry, and mining—that are fundamental to sustainable development.

Notably, the SFD has built development partnerships with various countries and international institutions. In 2024, it signed 17 development loan agreements with 13 countries, totaling over $987.1 million, to fund priority projects aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.
