Riyadh, August (پاکستان پوائنٹ نیوز 26 أغسطس 2025ء) Agroforestry is considered one of the sustainable agricultural practices that integrates the cultivation of trees with crops or pastures in a single area, providing environmental, economic, and social balance. Its benefits extend beyond improving agricultural productivity to include enhancing soil fertility, reducing land erosion, conserving water and minimizing waste, using trees as natural windbreaks, curbing grass growth and wildfire risks, diversifying income sources for local communities, supporting biodiversity, protecting endangered species, promoting the use of native plants of economic and medicinal value, strengthening food and water security, and engaging communities in the sustainable management of resources.
The National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC) leads national efforts to advance agroforestry in the Kingdom through several landmark projects, most notably the development of an action plan to promote agroforestry. The initiative aims to enhance environmental sustainability, foster social and economic development, encourage investment, and ensure the sustainable management of forests.
NCVC also strengthens community partnerships by involving local communities in protecting vegetation cover and developing natural resources, while supporting national targets aligned with the Saudi Green Initiative and the Saudi Vision 2030 through combating desertification and expanding sustainable environmental practices.
