Trump, Democrat Lawmakers to Continue Infrastructure Talks in 3 Weeks - Schumer

Democrat lawmakers will meet with US President Donald Trump in three weeks to continue talks on an infrastructure package, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer told reporters on Tuesday at the White House

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th April, 2019) Democrat lawmakers will meet with US President Donald Trump in three weeks to continue talks on an infrastructure package, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer told reporters on Tuesday at the White House.

"We agreed that the same group would meet in about three weeks and the president would present his ideas on funding and we would take it from there," Schumer said after he and his colleagues met with Trump to launch talks for an infrastructure package.

Schumer said Tuesday's meeting with Trump was constructive and in good spirit. He added that they agreed with Trump on spending $2 trillion for US infrastructure needs.

The Democratic leaders said Trump agreed with them on putting together a "bold" infrastructure plan that would address a range of needs aside from transportation projects such as broadband, water, energy, schools, housing and other initiatives.

In a letter to the US president on Monday, US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Schumer said that the package should also invest in resiliency of US infrastructure to deal with climate change.

The infrastructure package should also boost the US economy and include protections for women, veteran and minority-owned businesses, the lawmakers added.
