Russia's state-run Sukhoi Civil Aircraft (SCAC) company is planning to establish a technical support center for its Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100) jets in Saudi Arabia, Alexander Rubtsov, the president of SCAC, said in an interview released on Friday

DOHA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd March, 2019) Russia's state-run Sukhoi Civil Aircraft (SCAC) company is planning to establish a technical support center for its Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100) jets in Saudi Arabia, Alexander Rubtsov, the president of SCAC, said in an interview released on Friday.

"We plan to gradually move forward in cooperation with Saudi Arabia. We believe that the kingdom's economic development plan for [the period until] 2030 opens up new broad prospects for the use of our SSJ100 jets on domestic flights across the country. We are mulling over creating a technical support center for SSJ100 aircraft in Saudi Arabia to provide technical assistance to potential operators in the region," Rubtsov said in an interview with Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper.

Rubtsov recalled that SCAC showcased its SSJ100 at the Saudi International Airshow that concluded in Riyadh earlier in March, noting that the plane caught the attention of a large number of the airshow's visitors.

The SSJ100 is a twin-engine plane that can carry up to 98 passengers and fly at a distance of up to 2,470 miles. The jet made its maiden flight in May 2008.
