Further Increase in Pakistan-Russia Trade Needed Despite Steady Growth - Ambassador

Trade between Russia and Pakistan is growing, but further increase in its volume should take place, Pakistani Ambassador to Russia Qazi Khalillulah said on Friday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd March, 2019) Trade between Russia and Pakistan is growing, but further increase in its volume should take place, Pakistani Ambassador to Russia Qazi Khalillulah said on Friday.

"Our bilateral trade witnessed a 40 percent growth last year but the volume still remains low and we are working on ways to increase the volume," Khalillulah said during a press conference.

Energy is the key sector for cooperation between Russia and Pakistan, the ambassador added.

"The Pakistan-Russia friendship is developing fast into a mature partnership.

Our relationship has been in an upward trajectory for many years," the diplomat noted.

Relations between Russia and Pakistan have deepened in recent years, with the two countries expanding cooperation in the areas of defense, trade, commerce, economy and counterterrorism, among others. Russian Trade Representative in Karachi Yuri Kozlov said in December that the bilateral trade was expected to reach $800 million in 2018.
