US Awards General Electric $366Mln for Work on T-64 Aircraft Engines - Pentagon

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 28th February, 2019) General Electric Aviation has received a third of a billion Dollar US Navy contract to repair a helicopter engine originally designed more than half a century ago, the Department of Defense said in a press release.

"General Electric Aviation, Lynn, Massachusetts, is awarded a $366,206,842 five-year, firm-fixed-price requirements, long-term contract for the repair of 18 different head-of-family part numbers in support of the T-64 engine," the release said on Wednesday.

The General Electric T64 is a free-turbine turboshaft engine that was originally developed for use on helicopters but which was later used on fixed wing aircraft as well.

Work on the contract will be performed in the US state of North Carolina and is expected to be completed by February 2024, the release said.
