ERC opens fish landing in Al Jadid, Yemen

RED SEA COAST, YEMEN, (Pakistan Point News - 24th Feb, 2019) The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), opened a fish landing in the village of Al Jadid, Thabab District, today along Yemen’s Red Sea Coast, as part of ongoing projects and activities carried out by the UAE during the 'Year of Tolerance' 2019.

The ERC representative on the Red Sea Coast said that the opening of the fish landing project is part of a series of 18 similar projects on Yemen’s Red Sea Coast, while pointing out that the scheme has benefitted 300 fishermen.

He added that the ERC’s projects are part of its efforts to restore normalcy across the cities and villages of the Red Sea Coast, by reviving the fishing sector and improving the living standards of fishermen and their families, as well as of others working in marketing, sales and the export of fish.

Sheikh Ahmed Al Asaily, a Yemeni tribal leader, said that the projects, which include establishing, restoring and equipping marinas, fishing establishments and the administrative offices of solar-powered markets, have enabled fishermen to continue their careers and double their productivity.

Local fishermen expressed their gratitude at the opening of the project, which will increase productivity, preserve fish stocks, acceleate sales in local markets, and encourage exports.
