Pentagon Chief, German Counterpart Discuss US INF Withdrawal - Spokesman

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 15th February, 2019) US Department of Defense Acting Secretary Patrick Shanahan and German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen discussed during a meeting the US withdrawal from the Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, Pentagon spokesperson Eric Pahon said in a press release.

"The leaders discussed a broad range of defense issues, including the U.S.

decision to withdraw from the Intermediate Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty," Pahon said on Thursday.

They also discussed burden-sharing in the NATO alliance, the coalition to defeat the Islamic State terrorist group (banned in Russia) and ongoing operations in Afghanistan, Pahon said.

Moreover, Shanahan and Leyen also discussed the need to strengthen military competencies in emerging fields including cyber, space and autonomy, the release said.
