US State Department Reissues 'Do Not Travel' Advisory for Afghanistan

The US Department of State on Wednesday reissued a Level-4 travel advisory for Afghanistan, warning Americans not travel to the country

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th February, 2019) The US Department of State on Wednesday reissued a Level-4 travel advisory for Afghanistan, warning Americans not travel to the country.

"Do not travel to Afghanistan due to armed conflict, terrorism, crime and civil unrest," the State Department said in the travel advisory.

The advisory cited "critical levels of kidnappings, hostage taking, suicide bombings, widespread military combat operations, landmines and terrorist and insurgent attacks," as reasons for recommending not to travel to Afghanistan.

In addition, the State Department said the US embassy's capabilities in Afghanistan are strictly limited, particularly outside of Kabul where the level of danger has been elevated.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) also issued a Notice to Airmen and a Special Aviation Regulation due to risks to civil aviation operating in the vicinity of Afghanistan.

The current travel advisory replaces the State Department's previous memo issued in July 2018.
