Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will head for a visit to Brazil in late July, Russian Ambassador to Brazil Sergey Akopov said in an interview with Sputnik.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 09th February, 2019) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will head for a visit to Brazil in late July, Russian Ambassador to Brazil Sergey Akopov said in an interview with Sputnik.

"Yes, such a visit is being planned. It will be held in compliance with the schedule of events set to be held within the framework of BRICS, in late July of this year," Akopov said.

Akopov said that Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, who was inaugurated on January 1, supported boosting ties with Russia, including within BRICS.

"The new president of Brazil has been unequivocally speaking in favor of development and deepening of multifaceted mutually beneficial cooperation between Russia and Brazil," Akopov said.

Commenting on Russian-Brazilian cooperation within BRICS, Akopov noted Brazil's responsible approach to its obligations of BRICS president for 2019.

"BRICS agenda for 2019 is very rich, which proves that the Brazilian side expects significant positive results. It is important to note that our Brazilian partners present quite interesting initiatives related to different areas, instead of just following the already established BRICS agenda," Akopov added.

BRICS includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. It aims at enhancing cooperation between these developing economies in various areas. BRICS states regularly hold summits and meetings between foreign ministers, finance ministers and other officials.
