Syria Bomb Attack Shows Trump Needs to Set New Strategy to Safeguard Gains - US Senator

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 17th January, 2019) The bomb attack that killed 16 people, including US service members in Syria shows the Trump administration needs to develop a new strategy to safeguard progress against Islamic terrorists in the region, Senate Foreign Relations Committee Ranking Member Robert Menendez said in a press release on Wednesday.

"Today's bombing, which took place in a Syrian city patrolled by US-backed forces, is a stark reminder that the Trump Administration needs a clearly developed and articulated strategy to secure the gains we have made in the fight against terror," Menendez said.

The United States must do more to work with its allies to develop a comprehensive approach that secures our long-term interests in the region, he added.

Earlier in the day, the US military confirmed that several US service members were killed during an explosion while on patrol in the northern Syria town of Manbij. The Islamic State terrorist group (which is outlawed in Russia) later claimed responsibility for the attack.
