Egyptian Interior Ministry Neutralizes 8 Extremists Planning Attacks During Holidays

The Egyptian Interior Ministry said Thursday that eight extremists from a banned terrorist group were neutralized in Cairo.

CAIRO (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 20th December, 2018) The Egyptian Interior Ministry said Thursday that eight extremists from a banned terrorist group were neutralized in Cairo.

The ministry released a statement saying that it has neutralized eight extremists who were planning to organize terrorist attacks on state facilities during the upcoming New Year's holidays.

According to the statement, four other members of the terrorist group were detained and a large amount of weapons, ammunition and explosives was seized.

In November 2018, seven Egyptian Christians were killed and 17 injured in a terrorist attack on a bus that was going to a Christian monastery. In May 2017, 28 Egyptian Christians were killed at the same spot by the Islamic State terrorist group (outlawed in Russia). According to the Global Terrorism Index, Egypt recorded the largest increases in the number of deaths from terrorism in 2017.
