Majority of American Foreign Affairs Experts Say US Losing Respect Globally - Poll
The overwhelming majority of American foreign policy experts think the United States has lost considerable respect among people of other countries, a poll published by Pew Research Center showed on Monday.
Among experts specialized in foreign affairs at US colleges and universities, 93 percent said the United States gets less respect in the world now than it did in the past. Only 4 percent think that this factor did not change, while 2 percent believe the US is more respected now than it was before.
The poll was conducted in October 2018 by the Teaching, Research and International Policy Project among� 1,157 employees at US colleges and universities.
More than three-fourths (78 percent) of those who said the US is loosing respect see this as a major problem, while only 1 percent thinks it is not a problem at all.
A separate poll that surveyed 1,504 American adults found that the general public shares similar views as the experts, Pew said.
That poll found that 68 percent of Americans believe the United States is less respected than it was before, while only 13 percent say the country is in a better position than it was previously, Pew added.
