MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 17th December, 2018) The Russian upper house delegation plans to visit the UN-demarcated Blue Line between Israel and Lebanon later this week, Chairman of the Russian upper chamber Foreign Affairs Committee Konstantin Kosachev, who will chair the delegation, said on Monday.

In late November, the Israeli army launched an operation, dubbed Northern Shield, to expose and neutralize cross-border attack tunnels that Hezbollah dug from Lebanon into Israel.

"A next joint session of the committees on international affairs and defense of the Russian and Israeli parliaments will be held this week.

I lead this delegation ... We also plan to make it to the so-called Blue Line of demarcation between Israel and Lebanon," Kosachev said at a meeting with the Lebanese Ambassador to Russia.

After the launch of the Israeli operation, the Lebanese army and the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) increased the number of patrols along the Blue Line in order to prevent incidents that could lead to increased tensions in the border area.
