Kenyan Police Identify Suspects in Kidnapping of Italian Citizen

Kenyan police have determined whereabouts of the Italian woman who was kidnapped in the African country earlier in the week and identified those responsible for the abduction, local police chief Noah Mwivanda told La Repubblica newspaper on Saturday.

Sylvia Constanza Romano, a 23-year-old Italian national, was abducted in the Kenyan coastal county of Kilifi on Tuesday. Romano has been involved in a number of projects in Kenya to help children through the Africa Milele Onlus charity.

According to media reports, a group of four to five armed men speaking the Somali language kidnapped the volunteer and injured five other people, including children.

"We have determined whereabouts of the young woman ... We have no doubts that Sylvia Romano is alive. She is in a forest being held by three people," Mwivanda said, as quoted by the newspaper, adding that the Names of the kidnappers had already been identified.

Police have also announced a reward for any assistance in arresting the kidnappers.
