NATO to Continue Supporting Georgia As It Moves Closer to NATO Membership - Stoltenberg

NATO will continue to provide support to the Georgian government as it moves closer to becoming a member of the alliance, Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said during a Heritage Foundation event in Washington, DC on Friday.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 14th September, 2018) NATO will continue to provide support to the Georgian government as it moves closer to becoming a member of the alliance, Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said during a Heritage Foundation event in Washington, DC on Friday.

"We will continue to support Georgia and help Georgia as it moves closer to integration including towards membership in NATO," Stoltenberg said.

NATO helps Georgia implement reforms of its defense and security institutions, Stoltenberg said, while praising the country for taking part in alliance exercises and contributing to its mission in Afghanistan.

He added that NATO and Georgia would continue to strengthen their partnership.

The Georgian Defense Ministry announced in August that a total of 10 countries will take part in the annual multinational drills in Georgia, dubbed Agile Spirit 2018, slated for September 1-11.

The goal of the exercises, which were held in Georgia for the eighth time, is to increase the level of preparedness for joint operations of the NATO rapid response forces and the ability to respond to crises, as well as to improve the operational capabilities of the command, operations planning and conducting.
