Most Americans Approve of Mueller's Russia Investigation - Poll

Almost two-thirds of Americans support Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russia probe, a new Washington Post-ABC News poll revealed on Friday.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 31st August, 2018) Almost two-thirds of Americans support Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russia probe, a new Washington Post-ABC news poll revealed on Friday.

When asked, "Do you support or oppose the investigation of [US President Donald] Trump and his associates by special counsel Robert Mueller," 63 percent of respondents said they back Mueller's activity, while 29 percent expressed their opposition to the probe.

The evaluation of Mueller's job performance was closely correlated to party affiliation, with 61 percent of Republicans opposing the probe and 85 percent of Democrats supporting it. Meanwhile, two-thirds of independent voters said they back the investigation.

A narrow majority - 53 percent - think that Trump made attempts to interfere with the investigation, while 35 percent do not consider this a possibility.

The poll, conducted among 1,003 adults between August 26 and August 29, also shows that Americans think Mueller's criminal case against Trump's former campaign manager Paul Manafort is justified.

Mueller is heading an investigation into allegations that Russia interfered in the 2016 election, as well as accusations of collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow. Russia has repeatedly denied meddling in the vote, calling the allegations "absurd." Trump has also
