Most UK Citizens Believe Work of Banks Inconsistent With Society's Interests - Poll

Two-thirds of UK citizens do not trust banks to work in the best interests of society, a poll revealed on Thursday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th August, 2018) Two-thirds of UK citizens do not trust banks to work in the best interests of society, a poll revealed on Thursday.

As many as 66 percent of respondents said they did not trust banks, compared to just 20 percent of those trusting them and 13 percent remaining undecided, according to a YouGov poll commissioned by Positive Money charity.

Ten years after the global financial crisis, 72 percent believe banking institutions should have been penalized more seriously for their role in the crisis, while just 12 percent said the penalties had been fair and 1 percent considering them too strict. As many as 15 percent said they did not know.

The poll also revealed that 63 percent of UK residents were worried about yet another crisis that might be triggered by financial sector, while 27 percent of respondent said they were not worried about it.

The poll was conducted among 2,250 adults in August 2018.
