Japanese Foreign Minister Says Latest 2+2 Talks With Russia Useful, Constructive

TOKYO (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th May, 2019) The latest 2+2 talks between Russian and Japanese foreign and defense ministers were useful and constructive, Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono said Thursday.

"The security situation in the Asia Pacific region is changing almost every hour and every minute, and the region is facing various challenges.

Under such circumstances, a frank exchange of views on a broad range of issues between the heads of the defense and foreign ministries of Japan and Russia � the countries responsible for peace and stability in the region � is important. I think that today's consultations were also constructive and useful," Kono told reporters after the talks.

The minister noted that the talks started at 5:10 p.m. local time (GMT 8:10) and lasted for nearly 1 hour 45 minutes.
