NATO Successfully Repulses Daily Cyberattacks - Secretary General

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Thursday that the alliance had been facing and successfully repulsing cyberattacks on a daily basis, adding that none of the cyberthreats did any damage to NATO systems

BRUSSELS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd May, 2019) NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Thursday that the alliance had been facing and successfully repulsing cyberattacks on a daily basis, adding that none of the cyberthreats did any damage to NATO systems.

"We register suspicious events against NATO cyber systems every day ... We are tackling increasingly complex cyber threats faster and more efficiently. And we are more aware of the threats, more resilient to incidents. None of the attempts against NATO systems have compromised our networks. And none have affected our secure operations," Stoltenberg said at the Cyber Defense Pledge Conference in London, as quoted on NATO's website.

He stressed that the cyberattacks were expected to become more dangerous due to technological progress but the alliance was getting ready for such developments.

"And cyber threats will become more dangerous with the development of new technologies. Such as artificial intelligence, machine learning and deep fakes. These technologies are fundamentally changing the nature of warfare. As much as the industrial revolution did. NATO is adapting to this new reality," Stoltenberg said.

He added that the issue of supporting the member states' cyberdefense would be a top priority during the upcoming NATO summit in December.
