MURMANSK (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd May, 2019) The Norwegian police found more than 2,000 weapons in the country, some of which are suitable for combat operations and intended for illegal sale, local media reported on Wednesday, adding that this case is the largest in the history of the fight against illegal arms in the country.

The NRK broadcaster reported that some of those individuals engaged in illicit arms trafficking previously served in the country's armed forces or the police.

The police confiscated a total of 2,361 weapons, while 1,815 of them were trafficked, the broadcaster said.

A large-scale operation on search and removal of weapons named Bonanza started almost five years ago.

According to NRK, part of the found arms are registered as disposed of or destroyed. Investigators suggest that the weapons seized during the Bonanza operation were intended for sale abroad, as prices for some units were set in Euros.
