MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 17th May, 2019) Moscow's Cheremushki district court on Friday ordered the arrest of a North Ossetian man who was detained by Russian law enforcement for funding the Islamic State terrorist group (IS, banned in Russia) since 2015, a Sputnik correspondent reported from the courtroom.

Russian Federal Security Service arrested Georgy Guyev on Thursday, on suspicion of him allegedly having used bank cards to transfer about 50 million rubles ($772,500) to IS militants operating in Syria.

"The court has ruled to satisfy [Russia's] Investigative Committee's petition to place the suspect into custody for two months," the judge said.

Guyev will remain in jail until July 13.

In court, Guyev denied the allegations, saying that he had transferred funds to a charity fund working with children in Africa. Guyev's lawyer said that the circulating media reports about 50 million rubles were false and that the true figure was 150,000 rubles.

According to the Investigative Committee, various bank cards, extremist literature and communication devices were discovered at Guyev home during the probe.
