Egyptian President Says Supports Saudi Arabia, UAE After Attacks on Oil Facilities

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi expressed support for both Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates that have faced attacks on oil facilities this week, a statement by the presidential official representative said on Wednesday

CAIRO (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th May, 2019) Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi expressed support for both Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates that have faced attacks on oil facilities this week, a statement by the presidential official representative said on Wednesday.

"Egypt condemns these incidents. President Abdel Fattah Sisi has expressed full solidarity with the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia in resisting any attempts to undermine security and destabilize the situation in these two fraternal states," the statement published following the president's talks with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan read.

The crown prince, who is also the deputy supreme commander of the UAE armed forces, said, in turn, that Egypt was "a pillar of stability and security in the region.

On Tuesday, Saudi Arabia's oil facilities were attacked by drones. Later in the day, Yemen's rebel Houthi movement claimed responsibility for the attacks calling them their largest military operation conducted since the armed conflict in Yemen had began in 2015. The strikes caused a fire and minor damage to one of the pumps of Aramco's cross-country pipeline. The company said it had halted crude oil traffic via the pipeline as a precautionary measure.

On Sunday, four oil tankers from Norway, Saudi Arabia and the UAE were sabotaged near the coast of Fujairah, a UAE bunkering port in close proximity to Iran, and, as a result, got minor damage. According to the Emirati Foreign Ministry, nobody got injured and fuel did not pour in the sea. An probe into the case is underway and will be completed in the coming days.
