SHC issues stay order against Sarwar Bhatti for claiming to possess Maula Jatt's copyrights

After the trailer of ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ was released, Bhatti had claimed the movie to be a copyright violation.

Karachi (Pakistan Point News – 12th May, 2019) The Sindh High Court has issued a stay order against Sarwar Bhatti for claiming to possess the copyrights of Maula Jatt.

Sarwar Bhatti, the producer of original version of Maula Jatt starring Sultan Rahi and Mustafa Qureshi, had earlier won the original copyrights of ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ against Bilal Lashari.

After the trailer of ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ was released, Bhatti had claimed the movie to be a copyright violation.

The case eventually went to court and now the SHC has issued a stay order against the party that had been posing for the past three years as the rightful owner of Maula Jatt rights.

The Legend of Maula Jatt producer Ammara Hikmat wrote in a tweet that the court has restrained Bhatti and others from defaming the movie and its makers.

Earlier, the Lahore High Court had remarked that film censor board could review whether copyright law was violated in upcoming film The Legend of Maula Jatt or not.

The court held that it had only stopped producer, writer and others, of the film from unauthorised use of the title, characters, story and music of a 1979 Punjabi blockbuster "Maula Jatt". However, no bar has been imposed on authorised/legal use, permitted by the law, it added.

Fawad Khan is playing Maula Jatt in the movie while Hamza Ali Abbasi will be seen in the role of Noori Nath. Besides Fawad Khan and Hamza Ali Abbasi, other star cast includes Mahira Khan, Humaima Malik, Babar Ali, Resham and Gohar Rasheed.

The ‘Legend of Maula Jatt’ will be released worldwide on Eid-ul-Fitr, 2019.

This is the most expensive Pakistani film till date.
