US Showed No Evidence of 'Russia's Meddling' Over 3 Years of Accusations - Moscow

Washington did not provide evidence of Russia's alleged interference in US elections after repeating accusations against Moscow for three years, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday before the visit of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to Russia

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 08th May, 2019) Washington did not provide evidence of Russia's alleged interference in US elections after repeating accusations against Moscow for three years, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday before the visit of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to Russia.

Pompeo's visit to Russia is scheduled to take place from May 13 to 14. Pompeo will hold talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and possibly with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"The atmosphere of dialogue was strongly affected by the overheated domestic political situation in the United States, including the hysteria around the alleged 'Russian interference in US elections.' For three years of making such allegations, no real evidence appeared. The investigation of the Special Counsel Robert Mueller that continued in the last two years also failed to deliver it," the ministry said.

Since the 2016 US presidential election, the United States has been accusing Russia of interference in its internal affairs, particularly through social media. Russia has repeatedly dismissed these claims as unfounded, adding that meddling in other countries' domestic affairs contradicted its foreign policy.

On April 18, the US Justice Department released the final report of Mueller's investigation into allegations of collusion between Russia and the US President Donald Trump and Russian interference in the 2016 US election. While the report said there was no collusion, it did say Russia attempted to interfere in the election. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the Mueller report does not contain any substantiated evidence to support the allegations that Russia interfered in the US electoral process.
