Power Tariff to be further increased by Rs2 per unit

The government had earlier increased the electricity prices in April by Rs0.81 per unit

Lahore (Pakistan Point News – 8th May, 2019) The Energy Ministry is planning to increase the electricity prices.

According to media reports, the Energy Ministry has sent a summary to National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) recommending an increase of Rs 2 per unit in the power tariff.

The electricity prices will be increased following Nepra’s approval.

The government had earlier increased the electricity prices in April by Rs0.81 per unit on account of fuel price adjustment for the month of February.

It will already put a burden of Rs 3.15 billion on consumers.

The Central Power Purchase Agency Guarantee Limited (CPPA-G) in a petition had asked to increase Rs 1.23 per unit in power tariff for the month of February under monthly fuel adjustment formula.

In a petition submitted to Nepra, the CPPA-G maintained the cost of per unit remained at Rs 5.2014/kWh against the reference fuel charges of Rs 3.9710/ kWh per unit fixed for February.

However, an increase of Rs2 per unit is further demanded from Nepra.
