Supreme Council of Energy reviews 2030 demand strategy progress

DUBAI, (Pakistan Point News - 01st May, 2019) The Supreme Council of Energy held its 55th meeting on Tuesday, chaired by H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group.

The meeting agenda covered several topics, notably the progress related to the 'Demand Side Management Strategy 2030' to reduce energy and water demand by 30 percent by 2030.

Discussions also entailed the inclusion of institutions and entities under the umbrella of the Supreme Council of Energy to the private sector platform in the World Green Economy Organisation, WGEO, the Second Preparatory Conference on the establishment of the WGEO, and the Private Sector Platform’s Member Conference.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Supreme Council of Energy and Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, DEWA; Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Energy; Abdulla Jassem bin Kalban, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Global Aluminium; Dawood Al Hajiri, Director-General of Dubai Municipality; Saif Humaid Al Falasi, CEO of Emirates National Oil Company, ENOC; Waleed Salman, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Nuclear Energy Committee; Nasser Abu Shehab, CEO of the Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector at the Roads and Transport Authority, RTA, and Frederick Chemin, General Manager of Dubai Petroleum, attended the meeting.

"At the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, we are working to achieve the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to promote the shift towards a sustainable green economy as well as to achieve the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy to produce 75 percent of Dubai's total power output from clean energy, and make Dubai the city with the lowest carbon footprint in the world by 2050.

"The Supreme Council of Energy launched the Demand Side Management Strategy 2030 to reduce energy and water demand by 30 percent by 2030 as part of its efforts to make Dubai a leading example of energy efficiency regionally and globally," said Al Tayer.

The strategy features 10 programmes - new buildings and infrastructure, existing buildings and their infrastructure, efficient cooling, standards and labels of household appliances and equipment, smart homes and businesses, Shams Dubai, recycled water and ground water demand management, efficient mobility and smart charging, and the efficiency of fuels and engines.
