World Crime Index: Lahore declared the safest city in Pakistan

Lahore moved 36 steps down from the 138th position with crime index 46.9 in 2018 to 174th (42.06) this year.

Lahore (Pakistan Point News – 27th April, 2019) Lahore has become the safest city in Pakistan, surpassing Karachi and Islamabad in curbing crime.

According to the World Crime Index 2019, Lahore moved 36 steps down from the 138th position with crime index 46.9 in 2018 to 174th (42.06) this year.

The decrease has occurred in the crime rate of incidents of dacoity, robbery and bribery in the city as well. There is also a visible decrease in the sectarianism based crimes.

The crime rate during the day time has decreased to 15 per cent whereas incidents of dacoity at night have decreased to 18 per cent, the report read.

The World Crime Index released the updated crime status for 2019. The index lists 319 mega cities of the world, including Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad from Pakistan.

Karachi has dropped 11 steps in the latest index being ranked at 61st position with 58.43 crime index.

On the other hand, Islamabad has dropped by 11 steps and ranks at 232 with crime index of 32.88.

In 2018, Karachi ranked 50 with crime index 62.20 and Islamabad 226 (38.05) that showed both the cities improved their positions in controlling crime.

Abu Dhabi has been declared as the safest city in the world with 319th position [10.97 crime index].

The worst cities were Caracas, Venezuela, by holding 1st position with a crime index of 83.10.

The World Crime Index 2019 shows China’s Beijing and India’s Kolkata among the worst in crime control by attaining 94th position with crime index 52.79 and 105th slot (50.69).
