Trilateral Russia-Turkey-Iran Negotiations Continue on 2nd Day of Astana Talks on Syria

NUR-SULTAN (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 26th April, 2019) SULTAN, April 26 (Sputnik) - Russia, Turkey and Iran resumed their trilateral negotiations on Syria on the second day of the Astana-format peace talks held in the Kazakh capital of Nur-Sultan, a Sputnik correspondent reported on Friday.

The Syrian ceasefire guarantor states are trying to reach final agreement on the details of the Syrian constitutional commission formation � particularly, on its composition, procedural issues and terms of reference.

The Russian delegation is led by Special Presidential Envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev and includes Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin.

The Turkish delegation is headed by Foreign Ministry's Deputy Undersecretary Sedat Onal. The Iranian delegation head was changed and this time the officials are led by Ali Asghar Khaji, the newly-appointed senior assistant for political affairs.

UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen, as well as the Syrian sides, are already engaged in the talks.

Participants are close to making the final decision on the constitutional commission but are not there yet, Lavrentyev told reporters on Thursday on the results of the first day of the negotiations.
