PACE Calls on Russia to Appoint Delegation for 1st Time Since Start of Crisis in Relations

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) adopted by a majority vote on Wednesday a resolution calling on Russia for the first time since the start of the crisis in relations to appoint its delegation to the body, as well as to pay a contribution to the Council of Europe budget

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 10th April, 2019) The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) adopted by a majority vote on Wednesday a resolution calling on Russia for the first time since the start of the crisis in relations to appoint its delegation to the body, as well as to pay a contribution to the Council of Europe budget.

A total of 105 European lawmakers voted in favor of the resolution, 30 voted against and 16 abstained.

According to the text of the resolution, PACE "calls on the Russian Federation, in accordance with its statutory obligations, to appoint a delegation to the Assembly and to resume obligatory payment of its contribution to the Organization's budget, failure to which may lead to the suspension of its representation rights in both statutory organs, should the Committee of Ministers decide to apply Article 9 of the Statute."
