Iceland President Says Will Not Discuss Russia Sanctions During Wednesday Talks With Putin

ST. PETERSBURG (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 10th April, 2019) Iceland's President Gudni Johannesson told Sputnik that he was not going to discuss Russia sanctions during the Wednesday talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

On Wednesday, Putin and Johannesson will hold a meeting in the Russian city of St.

Petersburg, which hosts the International Arctic Forum on Tuesday-Wednesday.

"The sanctions are not directly connected with the Arctic. So I think that will be outside the formal agenda," Johannesson said.

The Arctic Council comprises a total of eight member states: Canada, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, Sweden and the United States.
