Afghan government recalls ambassador over PM Khan’s remarks

Media reports state Kabul termed Khan’s remarks over US-Taliban talks irresponsible and lodged a strong protest over it.

LAHORE- (Pakistan Point News- 27th March 2019) Afghanistan government has reacted angrily over Prime Minister Imran Khan’s remarks and recalled its ambassador from Islamabad to Kabul.

Media reports stated that the Kabul termed Khan’s remarks irresponsible and lodged a strong protest over it.

PM Khan was quoted as saying in his conversation with local journalists that forming an interim Afghan government would smooth peace talks between the US and Taliban as the latter were not willing to hold dialogues with Ashraf Ghani’s government.

Foreign Office Spokesman of Afghan government confirmed that Kabul summoned its deputy ambassador to discuss PM Khan’s ‘irresponsible’ remarks against the ‘elected government of Afghanistan.

In a series of tweets, Sibghatullah Ahmadi said: “The Afghan government deemed Khan's statements as an obvious example of Pakistan's interventional policy and disrespect to the national sovereignty and determination of the people of Afghanistan."

He confirmed that Kabul called its ambassador to Pakistan over PM Khan’s remarks.

US Special Envoy for Afghan Peace Zalmay Khalilzad also took to the twitter to criticize the statement by Khan. In a tweet, he said while Pakistan has made constructive contributions on the Afghan Peace Process, PM Khan's comments did not. The future of Afghanistan is for Afghans, and only Afghans, to decide."

Pakistan Foreign Office has so far not issued any statement over the issue.
