MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 19th March, 2019) The daily ration of a Russian submariner traditionally includes red wine, chocolate and caviar, Vice Adm. Oleg Burtsev, the former first deputy chief of the Russian Navy Main Staff, told Sputnik on Tuesday.

"Since the Soviet times a submariner in sea every day has 50 grams [1.7 ounces] of red wine, dried fish, chocolate and red caviar," Burtsev said.

He added that sailors also have fruit juices and canned vegetables on a daily basis.

Burtsev, at the same time, indicated that mariners usually ran out of fresh fruit and vegetables within the first 10 days of a naval mission.
