Training Workshop for Punjab FIPs

LAHORE (Pakistan Point News / NNI - 11th March, 2019) NDRMF organized a specialized one-day training workshop for Punjab based public sector potential Financial Implementing Partners (FIPs) at Government Engineering Training academy, Lahore.

The purpose of the training is to strengthen the capacity and knowledge base of potential FIPs for developing proposals as well as, compliance with relevant policies and procedures during project implementation in the light of safeguard policies including, Gender, Environment, Social Safeguards.

Around 30 participants representing Provincial Disaster Management Authority PDMA Punjab, Rescue 1122, Irrigation department, education department and Asian development Bank (ADB) attended the session.

Each session was conducted by NDRMF sector specialist based on detailed briefings on policies, proposals writing guidelines from perspectives of environment, social safeguards and mainstreaming Gender in DRR and DRM.

NDRMF has held basic orientation and outreach sessions in many provincial capitals including, Punjab for apprising the potential FIPs about NDRMF, its mandate and funding opportunities. This training workshop was designed on the basis of learnings� from these basic orientation sessions held with different line departments at Punjab level.

So far six disaster resilient projects from Punjab Government have been submitted including Narowal, Qasur, Sialkot, Shakargarh, Gujranwala and Sheikhupura.The training ended with question answer sessions mutual learning and commitment to make Pakistan resilient.

The Government of Pakistan (GoP) in collaboration with Asian Development Bank (ADB) and other donors has created the National Disaster Risk Management Fund (NDRMF) to address key issues in Disaster Risk Management, Resilience Building and Disaster Risk Financing.

The Fund aimed at reducing the socio-economic and fiscal vulnerability of the Country and its population to natural hazards and climate change, through financing investments in disaster risk reduction and preparedness that have high economic impacts.

National Disaster Risk Management Fund (NDRMF) is a government-owned not-for-profit, non-banking financial intermediary aiming to provide matching grants to up to 70% for a range of structural and non-structural interventions carried out by public and non-public sector entities for making Pakistan resilient towards climatic changes and other natural hazards.
