Trump Renews National Emergency to Regulate US Vessels in Cuban Waters

The US government has renewed its proclamation of a state of emergency against Cuba first declared 23 years ago related to regulating vessels, President Donald Trump said in a statement

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 20th February, 2019) The US government has renewed its proclamation of a state of emergency against Cuba first declared 23 years ago related to regulating vessels, President Donald Trump said in a statement.

"I am continuing for one year the national emergency declared in proclamations.... with respect to Cuba," Trump said on Tuesday. "The unauthorized entry of any United States-registered vessel into Cuban territorial waters and the situation in Cuba continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States.

"

The proclamation authorizes the US government to continue regulating the anchorage and movement of vessels into Cuban territorial waters, the notice said.

Trump said he was extending a proclamation of a national emergency first declared on March 1, 1996 and modified and expanded in 2004, 2016 and 2018 based on a disturbance or threatened disturbance of the international relations of the United States related to Cuba.
