Terrorist Cell of Five Militants Neutralized in Morocco - Interior Ministry
A terrorist cell consisting of five militants was neutralized on Friday in central Morocco, the country's Interior Ministry said
"On Friday, a terrorist cell comprising five militants aged between 21 and 36 years old was neutralized, including a former prisoner charged under the counterterrorism act that is effective in the city of Safi as part of [efforts] to counter terrorist threats related to the so-called Islamic State terrorist group [IS, outlawed in Russia]," the statement said.
The Moroccan Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation said that cold steel arms, electronic devices and extremist materials were seized during the operation.
According to the statement, it was revealed during the investigation that the suspects, who had declared their loyalty to IS, were planning to join the terrorists in Syria and Iraq. They also expressed readiness to participate in the group's acts of sabotage with the aim of disrupting security and stability in Morocco.
This is the third terrorist cell that has been taken down in Morocco since the beginning of the year.
