US Envoy for Venezuela Says Will 'Certainly' Travel to Region

US Special Representative for Venezuela Elliott Abrams told Sputnik on Thursday that he will definitely travel to the region but has no specific plans to announce yet

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 14th February, 2019) US Special Representative for Venezuela Elliott Abrams told Sputnik on Thursday that he will definitely travel to the region but has no specific plans to announce yet.

"There will be some travel, but nothing to announce right now," Abrams said in Washington on the sidelines of an aid conference for Venezuela hosted by the Organization of American States. "I will certainly be traveling but I have nothing to announce."

Abrams was appointed by the US secretary of state at the end of January.

On Wednesday, he provided testimony in the US Congress, saying that the United States would prefer to avoid the military operation in the country.

The United States and its allies have recognized the interim government of self-proclaimed interim president Juan Guaido and do not recognize the government of President Nicolas Maduro.

Russia, China, Turkey, Mexico and other countries consider Maduro to be Venezuela's only and legitimate president.
