OSCE Media Freedom Representative Urges US to Bring BBC Cameraman Attacker to Justice

OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Harlem Desir called on US authorities to put on trial the man who attacked a BBC cameraman during a Monday rally for US President Donald Trump in the US city of El Paso

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th February, 2019) OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Harlem Desir called on US authorities to put on trial the man who attacked a BBC cameraman during a Monday rally for US President Donald Trump in the US city of El Paso.

"I urge #USA authorities to bring the person who attacked @BBC cameraman Ron Skeans to justice and call to ensure a climate of respect and security for journalists at political events. #JournoSafe," Desir wrote on Twitter.

Skeans was attacked on Monday night while he was filming a speech being made by Trump. A man from the crowd approached the cameraman, pushed his camera down and proceeded to shove him.

Following the altercation, the BBC wrote to White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders calling for a review of security arrangements for media attending the president's rallies.
