WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th February, 2019) Two US aerospace companies are joining forces to develop a new private supersonic business jet that would fly at speeds of up to 1000 miles per hour [1,600 kilometers per hour], Boeing said in a press release on Tuesday.

"Boeing today announced a partnership with Aerion, a Reno, Nevada-based company pioneering next-generation supersonic aircraft," the release said. "Boeing made a significant investment in Aerion to accelerate technology development and aircraft design."

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Boeing said it will provide engineering, manufacturing and flight test resources as well as strategic vertical content to bring Aerion's AS2 supersonic business jet to market.

"This is a strategic and disciplined leading-edge investment in further maturing supersonic technology," Boeing NeXt Vice President Steve Nordlund said.

Boeing said the AS2 will be designed to fly up to 70 percent faster than today's business jets, which will allow passengers to save approximately three hours on a transatlantic flight.

The aircraft is slated for first flight in 2023, according to the release.
